Marriage, a sacred institution, is now undergoing tremendous threat in every part of the World. We have achieved a lot in every sphere of life, but human instincts have not changed. We need stable family conditions and proper environment to prosper in life.

Before one takes a decision to get married, a decision which is the most vital decision in everyone`s life, one should consult a marriage counselor to judge whether the person is physically and mentally fit and prepared for marriage. Most of the decisions for marriage are taken in haste and we follow what elders say or our instincts for that particular moment although we give much more time for buying a dress for example. The result is we suffer for the rest of our life for that one wrong decision. Because, Marriage is a school in which the pupil learns too late.

So here lies the role of pre marriage counseling as they provide pre marriage matrimonial services. Getting married without counseling is like diving into the water without the knowledge of swimming. Many studies have shown the importance of counseling as it actually helps in reducing the rate of divorce. Counselors help people realize what they actually want, are they really ready for marriage? It actually creates an awareness in people`s mind. It also reduces the stress of pre wedding tensions. Matrimonial counseling helps people educate about their partners choice, likings, disliking etc. Basically it helps in forming compatibility among the partners and helps them realize their long term goals.

The role of Matrimonial counselor is equally important in love as well as arranged marriages because there are few things which just can not be shared among love birds also. Here marriage counselor acts as a friend philosopher and guide. There are various aspects to be discussed before marriage like Education, Finance, Family issues, Personal matters, Intimacy, Expectations from marriage, Role expectations, Children, Role as Parents etc. Counseling also helps clear the myths of marriage. It is mandatory for Christian couples to undergo pre-marriage counseling. All non-Christian couples who want to lead a successful life should follow them as well. It becomes easier for the counselor to help couples if they come before relationship instead of coming before divorce, then the thought of divorce will be less considered.
